    hydration

When skin can't retain enough moisture, it can feel tight, dull, rough, or more sensitive over time. Lasting hydration depends on more than moisturizer, it's about helping skin hold onto moisture naturally.

  • Understanding Hydration

  • How well your skin holds onto moisture is influenced by what's happening beneath the surface. Understanding those changes helps explain why skin can feel dry, tight, or dehydrated, and how we can improve hydration in a more lasting way.

Understanding how hydration is maintained at different levels of the skin allows us to take a more targeted approach. Some treatments support hydration at the surface, while others work deeper to improve how the skin holds moisture over time.

  •
  • Dry skin is a skin type — it produces less oil. Dehydrated skin is a condition — it lacks water — and any skin type can be dehydrated, even oily skin. Dry skin needs richer oils and ceramides; dehydrated skin needs water-binding humectants like hyaluronic acid and glycerin. Most guests have one or both, sometimes seasonally.

Look for tightness right after cleansing, dullness that doesn't lift with exfoliation, fine lines that appear deeper than usual, and a paradoxical oily-but-flaky pattern. Dehydrated skin often feels rough even when it's producing oil. A pinch test on the cheek that holds the crease briefly is another sign.

In the medSPA: Different treatments support hydration in different ways. SKINVIVE improves hydration from within, Gold Infusion (AQUAGOLD®) delivers customized ingredients directly into the skin.

In the spa: Hydration-focused facials, HydraFacial, sheet mask treatments, and microcurrent help replenish moisture, support product absorption, and leave skin looking refreshed and radiant.

At home: Apply a hyaluronic acid serum to damp skin, follow with a barrier-supporting moisturizer to lock in hydration, and consider a humidifier in dry climates. Daily SPF helps protect your skin barrier and maintain your results.

For most guests, once a month is the sweet spot—it matches the skin's natural turnover cycle. During seasonal shifts (winter heating, summer travel), you may benefit from more frequent treatments. Consistent professional treatments, paired with daily barrier-supporting skincare, help maintain hydration over time.

Yes, sometimes — in very low-humidity environments, hyaluronic acid can pull moisture from deeper in the skin to the surface. The fix is to apply it to damp skin and seal it with a moisturizer immediately. In humid weather, it pulls from the environment. Layering technique matters more than people realize.

The best treatment depends on whether your skin needs immediate hydration or long-term improvement. HydraFacial is ideal for replenishing moisture and restoring glow in a single treatment. If dehydration is persistent, medSPA treatments like SKINVIVE and Gold Infusion (AQUAGOLD®) help improve how the skin retains hydration over time. Your provider can create a personalized plan based on your skin's condition.
