5 Things Your Massage Therapist Wants You To Know Before Your Next Massage
To help you get the most out of your massage, we asked 2nd Street District massage therapist, Monique, to share with us the five things everyone should know before going to their next treatment.
1. Communicate With Us.
It may seem self-explanatory, but I really encourage my clients to communicate with me before, during, and after their treatment. Prior to their massage, I'll ask them if they have any areas that they would like me to focus on. During this initial conversation, their answers will help me create a plan specific to their wants and needs. Early into the massage, I'll check back in with my clients and ask about their comfort level, specifically, if they prefer more or less pressure or if there's a spot that's too tender. By answering questions like these, they're helping me to ensure that they receive the best possible experience.2. Unwind Anyway You Like.
As a massage therapist, I'm constantly interacting with different types of people and know that everyone likes to unwind a little differently. Some people prefer to engage in small talk, while others just go straight to their happy place. I understand that not everyone interacts the same way, so don't feel obligated to talk to me during your massage. It's perfectly okay to let yourself drift away, even mid-conversation — I promise.3. Take A Deep Breath And Relax.
Before I start any treatment, I’ll ask my clients to take a big deep breath. Once I hear it, I’ll ask them to continue those slow, deep breaths for the first couple of minutes during their massage. This breathing technique will help them to fully relax their mind and body, which in turn, allows me to give them an even better massage. A win-win really! For those wanting to enhance their relaxing experience, plan to come to the spa early. Arriving early gives you time to take advantage of the steam showers, slip into a comfy robe, and enjoy some hot tea while you wait.
