Curly Hair Tips from Stylist Laura

One of our favorite product lines at SALON by milk + honey is Deva Curl. Their products are amazing for people with curly and wavy hair and popular with all hair types. Teach her to love and care for her curls and she’ll be happy for life.” -Lorraine Massey Easy Rules to Soft, Shiny, Healthy Curls 1: Moisture is a curl's best friend! 2: Frizz is a curl's worse enemy! 3: Use a non-sulfate shampoo such as our No-Poo. Sulfates will strip the hair of its natural oils and once taken away, your curls can then retain moisture. This will cleanse your hair of any silicones which are dry and damaging. 4: Use lots of conditioner! Apply all over, start by untangling bottom sections of your hair and then gradually move upwards. Let the conditioner sit in your hair for five minutes or so for extra moisture. Rake fingers through hair section by section to define curl structure. 5: Rinse with cooler water to lock out frizz and add shine. Leave some conditioner in your hair, especially in dry sections like the ends. 6: Apply your curl enhancer, cream, or serum to SOAKING WET hair by using a soft scrunching technique. Curly hair NEEDS finishing products! Fine, medium or coarse… Wavy, spiral or corkscrew… Every curl is different depending on the texture of hair. Deva Curl carries a product for each individual curl type. 7: Hands cause frizz! Be sure to place a towel, jersey, or t-shirt over your hand. Scrunch hair from bottom up, moving hand back and forth to bring out your natural curl pattern. When you are scrunching the left side of you head, lean your head over left, right side… lean right. Flip head over to scrunch the top and crown area. To create a more spiral defined curl you can twist individual curls around a finger using smaller sections. Let air dry or use a diffuser to enhance curl even more. Remember when diffusing to use your dryer on a high-heat setting with a low blast of air. Only dry hair 80%. 8: When fully dry you can leave curls as is or ever so gently squeeze hair with hands and soften curls. As a curly girl you are now defined, frizz-free and intact!
