Growing Gratefully — Not “Gracefully”
As we all know, aging can be a loaded topic. But if life's journey is about learning and gaining wisdom, isn’t that something worth celebrating? Growing older is certainly not something to apologize for — it’s something to embrace. Scroll on for our tips and rituals to care for your mind and body— now, and into the future.
Catch those zzz’s
Sleep is obviously key for your overall health, but did you know that lack of a good night’s rest can affect skin health? During sleep, your body is able to reset and heal. No matter your age, your body and mind will be happiest with a consistent bedtime and alarm in the morning. Of course, everyone is different so listen to your body’s circadian rhythm when deciding on a schedule. Replacing your phone’s alarm with a sunrise option will ease those early mornings.
Practice Gratitude
It’s been proven that practicing gratitude can improve your overall health and enrich relationships. Incorporating this practice into your life doesn’t have to feel like a tall order — you can start small. At milk + honey spa, we encourage our clients to practice gratitude through our #beegrateful notes. They’re simply small, blank sheets meant to hold space for in-the-moment gratitude. There’s nothing too big or too small — oftentimes, people share just one word. This can help you to pause, reflect, and take stock of the things that make your life brighter. If you want a slightly longer exercise, try the Five-Minute Journal. This book is meant to guide your reflection — both on the larger scale and specifics from your day-to-day.
Invest in everyday products
Rule of thumb: quality over quantity. It’s better to have less products that work harder than a full cabinet of products you barely use. Start by eliminating toxins from the products you use every day. It’s common to start with aluminum-free deodorant, but there are also cleaner options for every step of your skincare routine and the soap you use in the shower. Whether you like to embrace your natural hair or choose to keep it short, fun fact— shaving your face can help rid of dead cells and stimulates collagen production to reduce fine lines. For those who shave all the time, you need the proper shaving products for a healthy and hydrating shave. Whether you’re shaving facial hair or dead skin cells, it’s always best to follow with a moisturizing products to soothe your skin.
Detox — digitally
Access to information and everyone is a blessing, but also a stressor. Having a direct line of contact means that your job, friends, and family can reach you at all times. After work and before bed, consider turning your device on do not disturb to have some mindful peace and quiet away from emails and social media notifications. Want to take things a step further? Try charging your phone in another room while you sleep so you avoid the scroll before and after you catch those zzz’s.
