7 Things Our Team Loved This Month

I don't know about you, but September felt pretty exciting to me this year. While it's always sad to bid adieu to summer, I'm ready to unpack my cozy clothes and root down into my favorite autumn routines. We might have not been able to enjoy summer to the fullest extent this year (with less travel, closures of pools and beaches, gatherings limited, etc.), but I'm confident that there are ways to make the most of our upcoming chilly months — no matter how quarantined you might be.
Grab your favorite sweater and brew a pot of tea, because we're diving into our favorite things from September.

1. Synctuition App

"I've been loving the Synctuition app. Recently, it's been a fun new way to mediate." — Alissa, Founder

About Synctuition: Unlike regular music or other meditation programs on the market, Synctuition stimulates the brain and uses its natural neuroplasticity to create millions of new synapses that provide for increased creativity, enhanced intuition and better decision making. This increased brain connectivity helps to keep the brain refreshed and the mind rejuvenated.

2. The Melissa Wood Health App

"Ever since my daughter was born, I’ve struggled to find my footing with exercising on a regular basis. Add in the complexities of group workouts in the COVID era and the excuses keep coming. But my daughter is about to turn three (ha!)... and the new normal is here to stay. These can’t be my excuses anymore! I’ve found that Melissa Wood’s pilates and yoga-inspired workouts are perfect for me. I can do them at home, with little or no equipment, and the classes range from eight minutes to 40 minutes, which makes it easy to fit something in no matter how busy the day is. My mental health and body are so grateful for this app." —Marisa, Marketing Director

3. Ellevest

“I saw Sallie Krawcheck speak at the Women in Wellness conference in NYC in 2018 and she changed my life. I was able to save enough money for a downpayment for a house in just six months following inspiration from Ellevest. She also says that women need to talk to one another about money. It's taboo, yes - especially for women - but when we talk, we learn, share resources, and inspire one another to make smart financial decisions and investments. I refinanced our mortgage after talking with Teresa (Director of Operations, milk + honey spa), who was doing the same at the time, and I got it down by two points and am saving $397 on my monthly payments! Talk about money with other women! It's so empowering!” — Kelley, Procurement Coordinator

4. Second Life Podcast

“Hillary Kerr (co-founder of Who What Wear), speaks to female entrepreneurs and walks through their journey to success. The guests are always very interesting and I love how it gives an honest look at each of their paths; the mistakes they made, the challenges they overcame and most importantly, the risks and hustle that they had to employ to realize their visions. Every episode is hugely motivating, no matter your phase of life or career.” — Allison, Key Account Executive

5. Lovecraft Country on HBOMax

“This is the first time in a long time a show has me absolutely hooked. It is incredibly well-done from what I've seen so far. My favorite parts about it are the storytelling (lots of plot twists early on), wardrobe, color palette, soundtrack, and best of all, it has opened my eyes to parts of Black history that I had never learned about. It invokes the viewer to stop and think about how parts of this show are portrayed from real events, real tragedies that are part of the fabric of American history.” — Juni, Production Designer

 6. BonAppetit’s Pineapple Upside-Down Cake Recipe

"Growing up, pineapple upside-down cake was my dad’s favorite. His birthday was October 2nd, so I have the sweetest memories of making this cake with my mom around early fall. It’s been feeling a little chillier here in Austin, and with so much time at home, I figured it was time to try my hand at making it. This recipe from BonAppetit is fun and pretty easy to make. The cake is so spongy and delicious — my boyfriend said it might be his favorite thing I’ve ever made." —Dree, Brand Marketing Manager

7. My new puppy, Bean

"Raising a puppy while having adult dogs is shockingly easy. She's super smart and always watching the older dogs (Daisy and Phlox) to learn proper dog conduct. Bean also has taken up cornhole as a hobby alongside us, but has yet to learn to throw the beanBAG and not BEAN herself into the hole. She got comfortable in her kennel in less than a week, and is just kind of the best thing in the world to me right now." —Joey, IT Administrator
