Hands Along the Nile Development Services

Hands Along the Nile Development Services (HANDS) is an American  organization that is rooted in the Christian tradition and committed to respect for human dignity. In the 1920’s the Cate family moved to Austin and made a home at 2603 University Ave. Clifford and Nathalie Cate joined the University Presbyterian Church.  Clifford worked for an Austin lumber company as an estimator. The family remained members till Nathalie Virginia O’Hair Cate’s death at 100 in 1974.  They raised six children who learned about Christ at University Presbyterian Church.  Their fourth child, Julian O’Hair Cate learned so much at University Pres that he went to Wheaton College (BA), Dallas Theological Seminary (Master of Theology) and Hartford Seminary (PHD in Islamics).  He served as pastor of the Nepaug Church in New Hartford, NY and then became a missionary to the Republic of Iran, and then held executive positions with International Missions Incorporated.

His oldest daughter, Jennifer brings a wealth of international experience to her role as Executive Director at HANDS, having lived in Iran, Syria, Kazakhstan and Egypt. She began working at HANDS in 2003 and has served as the Executive Director since 2005. Jennifer earned a B.A. from Wheaton College and an M.A. from the American University in Cairo.
