Ch-Ch-Ch-Chia
Dating back to 3500 BC, chia seeds were a dietary staple of the Maya and Aztec people. In fact, the word, 'chia,' means 'strength' in the Mayan language and are said to have earned their name from the Maya warriors, who would eat these tiny seeds during battle. Today, chia seeds are hailed as holy-grail beauty food — a natural key ingredient to keeping your hair, skin, and nails healthy.
What are chia seeds?
As one of the world’s oldest sources of nutrition, chia seeds are grown in southern Mexico and Guatemala. When the Spanish conquistadors arrived in Mexico in the 1500s, they deliberately banned the planting and harvesting of chia seeds and other native plants. Chia seeds wouldn't be rediscovered until another 400 years later by a group of American and South American scientists.
How do they work?
Chia seeds are the richest source of omega-3 fatty acids in nature — more than flaxseed or fish! These fatty acids encourage the production of collagen, maintain skin moisture levels, and provide relief from skin irritation and dryness. Chia seed oil is packed with other good for ingredients like zinc, which helps heal and rejuvenate skin, and Vitamin B, a natural inflammatory, and has more antioxidants than Vitamin C and Vitamin E combined.
